loving every moment....

Baby Shands:

I have been in agony this weekend, but I love every moment... not AT the moment, but later I am grateful. I am on and off nauseated and weak. My appetite is up and down again and I have lots of food aversions. Aversions are way harder to deal with than cravings because its hard to know what you can eat and what wont make you sick. Today I realized that since I have been pregnant I have not wanted pizza and if I ate it with the girls, it kind of hurt my tummy. I LOVE PIZZA!!!!! Well your dad laughed when I told you this... revealing that he hated pizza as a kid. There yall go hating the same foods again. You are your father through and through where food is concerned. I find it hilarious that foods that I cannot stomach at times, are foods that your father doesnt like...

Another thing that has been interesting thus far is how your father and I are so connected mentally and physically. I hate sweets all I can eat is sour stuff. He eats tons of ice cream! I am cold most of the time, my husand sweats like a slave. When my appetite is gone, he eats for all three of us. One thing is for sure, we both sleep LOTS! We often joke that he is pregnant with me :)

We cannot wait for you dear baby..

Happy 9 weeks!

Hello sweet baby:

on thursday you and I made it to 9 weeks on this little journey together. I love you dear! Mommy has just been too tired to come write lately. I am usually in bed by 7 pm these days, trying to rest so you can continue to grow. you are so amazing Baby Shands! I cannot wait to see you again. Hurricane Irene is gracing North Carolina with her presence right now... your father is off work today and the next two days so we get to spend time together :) We are going to breakfast today. Just wanted to stop by and show you how excited I am that you are still growing strong. Soon we will be in the double digits. Only a few more days now.

We love you,

mommy

we did it!!!!

well baby shands,

we made it through the summer semester of my masters program... I started out before I found out I was pregnant with you and let me just say this has been a long road... with nausea, morning sickness, aches and pains, mood swings and death like fatigue I prayed to God to give me his strength to finish what I started. Fall semester starts tomorrow and for the first subterm I am only taking ONE class... I cut my courseload in half dear child, and I think it was a very wise decision. I am thankful to have maintained grades mostly A's and B's like I started out and not missing any assignments... it was NOTHING BUT the blood, I tell ya... I finished my counseling class up with a research paper scoring a shocking 92... nothing but the blood my child, nothing but the blood... especially since I wrote that paper in 1 1/2 days. Currently waiting for final grades... Hang in there baby shands.. hopefully you wont make me too sick and tired this semester... although mommy wont get to graduate when she orginally planned, she is still chugging along hoping to get her masters quickly...

love you

mom

once in a lifetime experience...

Baby Shands:

your father and I were priveleged to have a private scan on yesterday and here is how it went:

First of all, the ultrasound tech thought that I was ten weeks along, and was unsure that since I was only 8w, 1 day whether or not we would be able to see you with the abdominal probe. Well, my child, being the overachiever you are, you wowed us again as we saw you flipping and trying to move away because you did not want to be seen. I guess you were feeling like, "didnt you just see me yesterday?" lol as we had an ultrasound with the doctor on friday morning. The tech was so amused with you. She cheered you on.."great job little peanut".. she even ventured to see if she could see you on 4d and we did, although very small on there. Baby Shands we found that you had moved from my right side to my left and are burrowed down low in my pelvis, which is why I had been having sharp cramps a little this week. I will certainly be glad when you grow and move upward, although I know that where you are at this time is considered normal. I do not know if we excited or upset you or you are just very busy because your heart rate was a shocking 171 beats per minute, and with 180 being the highest at this timeframe, that is pretty high. But all in all, we are glad to hear your heart and know that it is strong. We recorded your heartbeat and put the recorder into two differnt stuffed animals. One for mommy and daddy to keep and listen to and one for your big sisters, so when we tell them about you they can keep. I slept with mine last night. I cannot wait to meet you sweet baby. Mommy cried for the first time at an ultrasound yesterday. You never cease to amaze me my child. In so many ways, it feels like you are trying to tell me not to worry. I wont dear child...

As far as the ultrasound on friday with the doctor that went well also. His machine does not allow you to hear the heart, but we saw it, flickering away faster than the first time we saw it. Your father and I were so amazed at how much you had grown since the first ultrasound. We could see the umbilical cord and see your little body strectching and forming. I cannot wait to see you in a few more weeks. I hear by then that you will actually have a baby profile and look just like a little baby instead of the cutest little tadpole that you are now. We love you anyhow :)

Before I go I also want to say, that you are making a lot of people suspicious early on sweet child. My pregnant glow, rounding face and already rounding out belly (yes surprise I am rounding early) is bringing lots of questions. I no longer have anything that hides the shape of my belly so new clothing will be due soon. Although to me my stomach is not much bigger, it IS round and harder. even wearing two shirts does nothing to hide it, as it did when I had a general pudge in the past from needing to lose weight. This is a whole different ball game. The old ladies have a saying that my hair dresser shared with me.. they say that "when you tell, you show"... I guess that may be true for me... Yet I enjoy every second of people guessing and looking hard at my stomach :)

HAPPY 8 WEEKS

hello little baby of mine:

I just came by to say

HAPPY 8 WEEKS!!!! :)

I celebrate every day, every week, every month carrying you inside of me. You are truly the heritage of the Lord and I do not take one second of your time here in vain. Your father and I read about your development here at the end of month 2, and we see that today, you start moving and flipping around. You lil daredevil you! I cannot wait for the next few weeks, when I can feel those cartwheels you are probably already practicing with much expertise. It is so hard to believe that just a short while ago, I was praying and praying that we would conceive you and in one short week, I will be three months pregnant with you! This is also an exciting time because we get to see you again tomorrow morning. I am so excited to lay eyes on you again. This time we will get to hear your little heart beating and see how fast it is going. Of course, I am really excited so I can finally get to compare it to the old wives tales about gender. See if it is lining up with everything else :)

well I have to get up and ready for work.... I will probably stop back by tomorrow after the ultrasound to say hello again and let you know how we feel

PS- Last night I had dream number FOUR... they all say you are a BOY!!!! I cannot wait to know if my intuition was true

small talk

Dear Baby Shands:

Not much to say today. I will say you amuse me with your cravings. You send me to mcdonalds (which I hated before we conceived you) and burger king. Those are two places I avoid like the plague, but now that i am pregnant, I find myself there. Yesterday at my favorite Mexican restaurant, I couldnt eat guacamole. you are like your father there, lol... he does not like guacamole either. But mommy used to put it on EVERYTHING, untill you came into our lives that is.

I am excited for next friday, which is when we get to see you again. I am also praying that my current doctor transfers me to the Birth Center so I can start prenatal visits with the midwife. We are not scheduled to be transferred untill the 3rd month, but my child, i am ready for the total pregnancy experience. I know I must be patient.

Love,

mommy
